Patient Confidentiality Patient confidentiality is of the utmost importance to everyone at Spectrum Health Gerber Memorial. In accordance with the Federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), we are able to provide the media with a one-word condition report on current patients. Additional information on those patients is released as permitted by patients and their families.
The one-word conditions determined by the American Hospital Association used to describe patients are:
Undetermined: Patient is waiting physician and or assessment
Good: Vital signs are stable and within normal limits. Patient is conscious and comfortable. Indicators are excellent.
Fair: Vital signs are stable and within normal limits. Patient is conscious, but may be uncomfortable. Indicators are favorable.
Serious: Vital signs may be unstable and not within normal limits. Patient is acutely ill. Indicators are questionable.
Critical: Vital signs are unstable and not within normal limits. Patient may be unconscious. Indicators are unfavorable.
Treated and Released: Patient was treated and released.
Treated and Transferred: Patient was treated and transferred. We cannot tell you to which facility patient was transferred.
Death: A person’s death is a matter of Public Record. To obtain accurate information contact the Fremont City Clerk.
During business hours (8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Mon. – Fri.) media requests for patient information must come through the Marketing Department.
